The delta form of the SARS-Cov-2 virus continues to dominate the new cases coming to the fore of Kovid-19 in the country, while the rate of infection from other forms of the virus is decreasing. This information was given by the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) of the government, which is involved in the work of genome sequencing (genetic sequencing) of the corona virus in the country. Insacog said that at present there is no evidence of a subtype of the delta form of the corona virus, which is more concerned than the delta. The government committee said, “According to the examination of the samples taken recently, the delta form continues to dominate the new Kovid-19 cases emerging in all parts of India and thus the infection is spreading rapidly in the world and It is responsible for the re-emergence of the epidemic in many parts including South Asia. This type is spreading rapidly on a global scale.
Insacco said that regions with more vaccinations and stronger public health measures, such as Singapore, are doing better. It is noteworthy that the delta form was responsible for the second wave of corona virus epidemic in India between March and May, due to which thousands of people died and millions were infected. Insacog reported that the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) study confirmed that the cases infected after vaccination came from the delta form, but in only 9.8 percent of the cases, the patients had to be hospitalized while the mortality rate was limited at 0.4 percent. He told that the figures of getting infected with the delta form are increasing because the rate of getting infected with the delta form through contact at home is twice that of the alpha form. Infection with other forms of the virus is very low and their rate is decreasing compared to Delta.
Insacag stressed, “public health measures and vaccination are important to prevent infection.” There has not been a single case of infection from lambda form in India so far. According to British data, passengers or people who came in contact with them have been infected primarily by Lambda form and the rate of infection is lower than Delta. Significantly, INSACOG is a joint initiative of the Union Ministry of Health, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and ICMR, under which 28 national laboratories are working to monitor the changes in the genome of the virus.
