The central government has so far provided more than 24 crore corona vaccine doses to the states and union territories (UTs). This information has been given by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday. It has been said by the Ministry, ‘More than 24 crore (24,65,44,060) doses have been made available to the states and union territories by the Government of India (free of cost channel) and under the direct state procurement category, Out of this, the total consumption including wastage is 23,47,43,489 doses (as per the data till 8 o’clock on Tuesday).
It has been further said by the Ministry that 1,19,46,925 Kovid vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs. The third phase of corona vaccination started from May 1, under which people aged 18 to 44 are being vaccinated. According to the ministry, under the strategy, 50 percent of the approved vaccine dose by the Central Drug Laboratory (CDL) every month will be procured by the Government of India. The Center will continue to provide this dose free of cost to the State Governments as was being done earlier. Under the nationwide vaccination campaign, the central government is cooperating with the states and UTs in providing the corona vaccine free of cost. Apart from this, the facility of direct procurement is also being given by the government to the states/UTs.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his address to the nation on Monday that from June 21 (World Yoga Day), the Government of India will provide vaccines to the states for all citizens above the age of 18 years. The central government will buy 75 parts of the vaccine and provide it to the state governments free of cost. In his address, the PM also said that the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana will be carried forward till Diwali. Every poor will get free food grains till November in fixed quantity. In his address, the Prime Minister said that till now crores of people of the country have got free vaccine. Now people of 18 years of age will also join it. Only the Government of India will provide free vaccine to all the countrymen.
