in Mumbai Monsoon (Mumbai Monsoon) has knocked and the preparations of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have been exposed in the very first rain. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in the city on June 13 and 14. In such a situation, BMC has tightened its gear. Describing its preparedness on Friday, BMC said, ‘We have alerted our disaster management agencies. All disaster management units including fire brigade have been asked to remain alert.
BMC said that Mumbai High alert has been issued especially for coastal areas and low-lying areas. BMC departments like BEST, education department and health department etc. have also been asked to be on standby. The education department has been asked to identify locations for emergency shelters.
Residential areas have been marked near Mithi river. If the situation of Mithi river worsens in areas like Kranti Nagar, then people have been asked to be ready to evacuate them to a safe place.
BMC has started coordinating with NDRF, Coast Guard and Indian Navy so that they are available for help when needed.
