- The tweet read, ‘I didn’t say anything about this’
- According to sources, Abhijeet met TMC leaders last week
- There is talk that TMC may offer him Jangipur assembly seat.
Son of former President Pranab Mukherjee Abhijit Mukherjee (Abhijit Mukherjee) has denied that he will leave the Congress and join the Trinamool Congress, although his recent tweets have sparked speculation about a ‘change’. Former MP Abhijit Mukherjee wrote in a tweet (this tweet has now been deleted) on Friday, ‘I have not told anything about this to anyone.’ By the way, he has not directly denied that he is joining Mamta Banerjee’s party.
On the same day, Abhijeet told Press Trust of India, ‘I will remain in Congress and this report that I am joining Trinamool Congress or any other party is not correct.’ However, sources reveal that Abhijit Mukherjee met Trinamool Congress leaders last week. There is speculation that Abhijeet will be offered the Jangipur assembly seat from the Trinamool Congress. His father (late) Pranab Mukherjee has won the election twice from Jangipur parliamentary seat, he had vacated this seat in the year 2012. Jangipur is one of the assembly seats where by-elections are to be held. Abhijeet won the election from Jangipur parliamentary seat in 2014 after the seat was vacated by his father, but in the 2019 general election, he had to face defeat from Khalilur Rahman of Trinamool Congress.
Apart from Abhijit, another big name that is being discussed in Trinamool Congress is Rajib Banerjee. Banerjee had joined the BJP in April-May just before the assembly elections in West Bengal. After the landslide victory of Mamata Banerjee’s party TMC in the elections, Banerjee is also looking for a way to return to her ‘old party’. It is believed that after Mukul Roy, Banerjee will be the second leader to make a comeback from the BJP to the Trinamool Congress.
